
Dr. Roland Addo-Hammond is a seasoned pharmaceutical executive and global health leader with over two decades of experience in patient-centered drug development, access strategy, and policy advocacy. His work spans multiple geographies, including the United States, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and sub-Saharan Africa, where he has led complex, large-scale programs in therapeutic areas such as neuroscience, oncology, hematology, immunology, cardiometabolic diseases, and rare conditions like sickle cell disease.
He has held progressive leadership roles at Novartis, serving as Country Head for Ghana, Global Head of Access for the Sickle Cell Disease Flagship Program, and Franchise Head for Oncology, Immunology, and Sickle Cell Disease. In these roles, Dr. Addo-Hammond led initiatives that embedded patient voices into research and development pipelines, co-developed public-private partnerships with national governments, and implemented comprehensive access-to-medicine strategies, including innovative drug formulations and digital platforms for newborn screening and patient management. He played a pivotal role in shaping access frameworks and commercial strategies for major therapeutics, including Adakveo (crizanlizumab), and has collaborated with stakeholders such as the Clinton Health Access Initiative and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to expand healthcare coverage and influence global policy on sickle cell care.
Currently serving as Chief Strategy Officer at Xcene Research, he leads strategic investments, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy for clinical trials and digital health solutions. He also sits on the Executive Board of the Sickle Gene Action Foundation, where he drives global advocacy and awareness initiatives. His expertise includes global patient advocacy, market access, reimbursement strategy, regulatory and ethical compliance, and cross-functional leadership within matrix organizations.
Dr. Addo-Hammond holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and an Executive MBA in Marketing from the University of Ghana Business School. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and has completed leadership training at Stellenbosch Business School. His strategic orientation, commitment to equity in healthcare, and dedication to empowering patient communities have positioned him as a transformative figure in global health and pharmaceutical access.
