Dr. Teresa I. Pounds BSc, BPharm, PharmD, BCNSP, FNAPPSA, FNAPharm

Dr. Teresa I. Pounds is a Clinical Pharmacy Consultant specializing in clinical pharmacy practice, residency program development, and metabolic support. She has extensive experience in pharmaceutical research, clinical education, training and mentoring, and the development and implementation of clinical pharmacy programs. Her areas of expertise include clinical pharmacy practice, parenteral and enteral nutrition, HIV pharmacotherapy, antiretroviral therapy optimization, medication therapy management, antimicrobial stewardship, anticoagulation, and patient counseling.

She holds a PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) and BPharm (Bachelor of Pharmacy) from Mercer University, Southern School of Pharmacy, as well as a BSc (Biology), Cum Laude, from Spelman College. She is also a BCNSP (Board Certified Nutrition Support Pharmacist) and a FNAPPSA (Fellow, Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Scientists in the Americas) and FNAPharm (Fellow, Nigeria Academy of Pharmacy). Her professional certifications include Basic Life Support (BLS) and a Geriatric Teaching Certificate.

Her current position is Clinical Pharmacy Consultant, focusing on clinical pharmacy practice, residency program development, and metabolic support. In this role, she develops and implements clinical pharmacy programs, provides clinical recommendations, supports residency training, and trains healthcare professionals in nutritional care. She also provides consultation in HIV pharmacotherapy, medication therapy management, pediatric dermatology, pulmonology, and cardiology.

Dr. Pounds has previously served as Clinical Pharmacy Manager and Program Director at Atlanta Medical Center, Wellstar Health System, where she developed clinical pharmacy programs and educational initiatives for pharmacy residents and healthcare professionals. She has also held academic and educational roles, including Clinical Assistant Dean for Pharmacy Education, Assistant Dean for Experiential Education, Visiting Associate Professor, and Visiting Professor of Pharmacy Education.

She is the founder and a member of the West African Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN) and has contributed to the development of nutrition support programs, including training curricula in metabolic support and initiatives to improve the appropriate use of parenteral nutrition. Her professional memberships also include the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN), American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), Nigerian Pharmacist Association, and Georgia Society of Hospital Pharmacists
