
Samuel Muyunda is a Zambian pharmacist with broad experience spanning tertiary hospital services, paediatric pharmacy leadership, retail practice, and national medicines policy. He leads the Pharmacy Department at the University Teaching Hospital – Children/Paediatric Hospital in Lusaka, where he oversees clinical services, rational medicines use, and commodity security, supervises a large multidisciplinary pharmacy team, and collaborates with the Ministry of Health and partners on supply-chain optimisation and antimicrobial stewardship.
His professional contributions include service on the Zambia National Formulary Committee, supporting the development and maintenance of national reference documents such as the Zambia National Formulary, the Essential Medicines List, and the Standard Treatment Guidelines. He has also held elected leadership in the Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia, informing policy and representing the profession at national level. Alongside his institutional role, he remains active in community and retail settings as a responsible pharmacist, with responsibilities in dispensing, inventory control, staff supervision, guideline adherence, and pharmacovigilance.
Mr. Muyunda’s earlier roles built a strong clinical and operational base, including hospital pharmacist duties at Zambia’s main referral hospital and head-of-department responsibilities at district level, where he managed logistics for medicines and supplies and led pharmacy administration. His experience extends to teaching and mentorship as an honorary lecturer and part-time tutor, contributing to the development of the next generation of pharmacy professionals. He is registered with the Health Professions Council of Zambia and maintains active membership in the Pharmaceutical Society of Zambia.
Academically, he holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy and a Diploma in Pharmacy and is advancing training through a Master of Clinical Pharmacy. His interests include strengthening clinical governance, improving access to essential medicines, and embedding stewardship principles across care settings, with a consistent focus on safe, effective, and guideline-concordant pharmacotherapy.
