Prof. Benedict Weobong is a global mental health epidemiologist whose work focuses on understanding, measuring, and improving mental health outcomes in low- and middle-income settings. His research spans psychological treatment development, perinatal depression, alcohol and substance use, adolescent mental health, and implementation research aimed at scaling up evidence-based mental health interventions. He also examines the relationship between social determinants, climate conditions, and mental health, and contributes to developing programmes that support mental health promotion in schools and primary care systems.
He has contributed to major multi-country research collaborations funded by leading global health agencies. His work includes developing adolescent health and wellbeing programmes, studying the mental health impact of environmental stressors, and supporting the training of the next generation of mental health researchers across Africa. He serves on editorial boards and supports academic publishing in the mental health field. Prof. Weobong also teaches and supervises students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, contributing to the advancement of global health and behavioural sciences education.
