
Prof. Patrick Kafui Akakpo is an Associate Professor of Anatomic Pathology at the School of Medical Sciences, University of Cape Coast, where he also heads the Department of Pathology. His professional and academic career is centered around breast and gynaecological pathology, with active interests in molecular pathology and the application of real-world data to improve diagnostic outcomes. He is deeply engaged in research, academic leadership, and capacity-building initiatives within Ghana and internationally.
His contributions to the medical field include initiating and developing the Pathology Departments at both the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and the University of Cape Coast. He has supervised and co-supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, particularly those focused on cancer pathology. His academic output includes over 80 peer-reviewed publications and two books, many of which focus on cervical and breast cancer. His involvement in research extends to collaborative projects with local and international institutions on HPV, breast cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma.
Prof. Akakpo plays an active role in professional development across the pathology landscape, serving as an external examiner, residency trainer, and mentor to multiple specialists. He is also a member of several professional bodies, including the International Academy of Pathology and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists. His editorial and peer-review activities contribute further to shaping scientific literature in pathology and public health.
