
AstraZeneca, in partnership with the Thoracic Society of Ghana (TSG) and the Lung Cancer Awareness Initiative (LuCIA), is pleased to present a two-part virtual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training series: Oncology for Non Oncologists – Lung Series. This initiative aims to equip frontline health professionals with foundational knowledge and practical insight into lung cancer management, from diagnosis through to survivorship.
Each session in the series is crafted to ensure interactivity, clinical relevance, and ease of comprehension for non-oncology professionals. Participants will benefit from presentations by distinguished subject-matter experts—including pulmonologists, radiologists, molecular scientists, oncologists, and palliative care professionals.
This series is open to Medical Doctors. Participants will earn CPD points and receive a certificate upon successful completion of each module.

This virtual training series offers frontline health professionals a practical and accessible introduction to lung cancer, equipping participants with foundational knowledge on types, risk factors, early detection strategies, and diagnostic advancements such as imaging, molecular testing, and liquid biopsy. It also explores current treatment options including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies like osimertinib. Delivered by experienced pulmonologists, radiologists, molecular scientists, and oncologists, this phase of the training empowers non-oncology practitioners to contribute meaningfully to early diagnosis and effective referral in the fight against lung cancer.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
1. Distinguish between the major types of lung cancer, with an emphasis on non-small cell and small cell variants.
2. Identify key risk factors, early warning signs, and the importance of timely screening and detection.
3. Interpret the role and findings of diagnostic imaging tools such as chest X-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and PET scans.
4. Understand the principles and clinical application of molecular testing and liquid biopsy in lung cancer diagnosis.
5. Describe the core modalities of lung cancer treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies.
6. Appreciate the relevance of a multidisciplinary approach in lung cancer management and initiate appropriate referrals for specialist care.
