The Ghana College of Pharmacists with support from World Child Cancer (WCC) and the International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) has designed this continuing professional development (CPD) session specifically for practising pharmacists to strengthen their competence in paediatric palliative care, with emphasis on pain assessment and holistic management. While the session draws on input from a multidisciplinary team, the focus remains on how pharmacists translate these insights into safe, effective, and patient-centred pharmaceutical care.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Apply principles of paediatric palliative care and the concept of total pain in pharmaceutical care planning.
2. Interpret pain assessment findings in infants and children to inform appropriate pharmacotherapy.
3. Design and optimise pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management strategies.
4. Demonstrate the pharmacist’s role in improving medication safety and outcomes within the multidisciplinary team.
